In 1992, owner and chef, Lisa Coffman, graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.  Shortly afterwards, she completed her residency at Williamsburg Inn in Virginia, a 5 star restaurant.

Lisa returned to Nashville in 1996 to start a small catering business serving the music and recording industry.  Over time, the business grew and so did the need for space.  In early 1999 a conveniently located catering kitchen became available in the Crieve Hall area.  The location was perfect for an upstart catering company.  Unique Flavors Catering opened for business in April of that year. It wasn't long before Lisa saw an opportunity to serve several nearby office parks including Grassmere.  At first, she went door to door selling sandwiches in her spare time.  Demand for homemade sandwiches was so great, she decided to renovate the front of the kitchen to accommodate retail customers.  Unique Flavors Cafe opened in the Spring of 2000 and the rest you could say is history. 

Unique Flavors Cafe has enjoyed tremendous success over the last few years.  In 2006, the main dining area was expanded and public restrooms were added.  Most recently, breakfast was added to the menu and store hours were expanded.  Today, Unique Flavors Cafe is a cornerstone of the Crieve Hall and Grassmere communities and continues create culinary delights while seeking better ways to serve its customers.
